We're down at Suzie Yazzi's land. She's a 90 yr old Navajo woman who has chosen to stay here living as she was raised. Curley told us that the Yazzi name is a very common Navajo name. These are her horses. She also has sheep and grows corn, which is the staple of the Navajo diet.
Now that he has the direction, he's decided that we will head for another clearing to try and launch. Once there, they unloaded the basket we were going to ride in as well as all the other equipment.
More of Mars. I kept thinking that this had to be the set for Total Recall. By the way, Tommy Hilfiger was shooting a set in the area while we were there.

Here's a Hogan that a Navajo family lives in. This one is considered a 'female' Hogan. The male Hogans are more pointy on the tip. That's a stove pipe coming out the top. They have wood burning stoves inside.
This is what they call 'The Hub' because it looks like a wagon wheel from the air. I was soooo looking forward to seeing that from the air.
That's a 'male' Hogan. Curley went into a lengthy explanation of their traditions about it and how the females tell time by the sun that comes through the roof of their Hogan so they know when to start making Navajo Fry Bread and other meals.
I was laughing when I saw the more 'upscale' Hogan. These Navajos decided to put a window in theirs.
It's still kind of dark depending on where we went in the valley because the sun isn't fully up yet. Believe it or not... they're still looking for an optimal launch site.

Finally! We have a launch site. Brian, Ian, Ron and Curley are taking the basket and other equipment off the trailer.
